Besides being a Bordeaux wine ambassador, Baron de Lestac is a major player on the Bordeaux wine scene: our wines are made from the vineyards of many Bordeaux producers with whom we share the same passion for the region, and for sustainable wine growing. This is why since the 2019 vintage all our grower-partners are Terra Vitis-certified, respecting strict specifications, which means that our wines are made with the greatest respect for the environment and for society.
First and foremost, Terra Vitis is a philosophy. Based on the principle of minimal intervention, its fundamental concept is “a way of farming which meets present needs, without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.” In the vineyards selected by Baron de Lestac, this translates into specific actions that favour natural regulatory methods, preventing vine disease rather than having to treat it, preserving soil fertility and improving water and air quality. In total there are more than 80 annual checks in the Terra Vitis programme, an environmental certification recognised by France's Food and Agriculture Ministry.
Terra Vitis certification is exclusively for viticulture, but it does not focus only on environmental questions. It was created in 1998 by wine growers who wanted to take a global approach, promoting sustainability not just in the vineyards but also in the estates, including the people working in the sector.
By following Terra Vitis specifications, Baron de Lestac's grower-partners are committed to protecting the health and safety of their employees, but also to protecting jobs and encouraging access to training within their companies.
In turn, we aim to ensure their economic viability by paying our grower-partners a fair price for their products.
